Altered Elegance was founded by Thandiwe Nkosi with a clear focus on garment remodelling and upcycling. The studio was created for customers who want more than a basic alteration and prefer work that considers fabric condition, fit, and design potential.

We handle consultations, redesign planning, remodelling work, and fit reviews at collection. For redesign projects, concept approval comes first, and the final quote is based on the garment and materials after assessment.

Our work suits sustainability minded customers, vintage clothing owners, and anyone bringing in a garment with personal meaning. The goal is to make each piece more useful without losing what made it worth keeping.

Careful Assessment

We begin with a proper inspection before any quote is confirmed. Fabric condition, construction, seam allowances, and the requested fit all shape what can be done and how the project is priced.

Practical Redesign

Redesign and upcycling work is planned around the garment already in hand. We look for the strongest parts to reuse and explain where the fabric or structure may limit the result.

Fit Checked Twice

At collection, the garment is checked again so the finish can be reviewed before it leaves the workshop. Small final adjustments are handled with care when needed and agreed.

Material Matching

We aim to match original thread and trim where available, but only after confirming supply. This keeps expectations realistic and helps each project stay aligned with the garment.
